One being the modem LED to push the 2.5 to the router and the other to get the router to take the higher speed.No idea what your other modem is but it could be a couple things. 1. the other once could be a docsis 3.0 device and the issue is on the 3.1 channels 2. it could be the other modem is starting at a difference frequency and the issues are only on a small section of frequencies. That does happenI would presume the brand of surge protector you got may have been faulty. Surge protectors should not be causing problems or damage like that.
