Apr 30, 2012 · 1947 Marlin 39a firing pin broken. Hello, well I went to take down my 39A to look at my broken ejector and when I picked up the rifle I saw a small piece of metal in the case. I picked it up and new where it belonged right away. It was the end of the firing pin. Marlin 39a missfires. My 3 year old 39A missfires after about 5 or 6 shots. The next 2 or 3 missfire.The firing pin barely dents the rim of the cartridge. Then fires 5 or 6 more and same thing happens. Have tried different brands of ammo to no avail. Cleaned everything and firing pin is not peened and the chamber rim is not dented.The retaining pin would just fall out if the gun was opened and turned upside down. The fireing pin seems loose and will go back and forth about a 1/4 inch. This may be normal but I just can't remember. The gun went back together fine and fires properly.
